Embracing Erotic Wholeness: From Shame to Curiosity invites you to be curious about how purity culture shaped the sexuality of a generation and to take the risk of wondering what sexual wholeness means for you.
The messages coming out of the purity movement shaped our sexuality and our personhood. Many of us coped with mixed sexual messages by learning to cut ourselves off from our bodies, sexuality, pleasure, the right to have desire, we silenced fundamental parts of ourselves. Yet, when we are fragmented and disconnected from ourselves, we are more easily controlled and lost. Purity culture was the lie that kept us docile, kept us giving and giving, and told us to never take. It said pleasure was only meant for some people at certain times. It told women they weren’t enough and simultaneously too much. It made us strangers in our skin. It crushed the dreams of men and women alike. It was the snake in the grass that always found a way to strike.
This book invites you to get curious about topics in sexuality that we’ve kept dualistic thoughts about for so long and to live in the gray - the space where we learn that we don’t have to know the answers, that there isn’t always a “right or wrong” but more of a wondering about what fits with the spirit and soul God created within us.
